In August, Romania remains leader in the EU in constructions

In August 2008, Romania recorded for the sixth month in a row, the biggest annual rhythm increase in constructions (28,5%) in the entire European Union (EU27), being followed by Slovacia (10,4%) and Slovenia(9,3%), as shown by the data presented Friday, 17.10.2008 by the European Statistics Office.
For Romania, the annual advance of 28,5%, recorded in August, followed an increase of 28,1% in July, 36,4% in June, 20,3% in May, 31,4% in April and 31,6% in March. In the European Union(EU27), the constructions recorded a decrease in annual rhythm of 1,5% in August 2008, and in the Euro zone (EA15) a decrease of 2,5% was recorded. The most dramatic annual decrease in constructions was recorded in Spain (-8,4%) and Portugal (-6,3%). In August 2008, the constructions dropped with 0,2% in EU compared to the previous month and an increase of only 0,1% in the Euro zone. In this case, Romania stands in top positions, with an increase of 2,4 % being overcome only by Germany, who witnessed an increase of 5,5%.
The biggest downfalls were recorded in Portugal (-6,6%), Slovenia(-4,9%) and Bulgaria(-4,7). According to the data presented recently by the National Statistics Institute (NSI), the volume of constructions recorded in Romania during the first 8 months of the current year, surpassed the the one recorded last year in the same period of time by 31,5%.
